Herbal tea is a generic term that is used for any beverage that is made by steeping flowers, roots, leaves, and bark from plants other than Camellia sinensis, which is the tea plant. If the plants where the ingredients come from are grown organically, then the finished product will be organic herbal tea. There are organic herbal teas that contain other ingredients such as spices that have also been grown organically. The increase in organic herbal tea’s popularity is part of an overall movement towards organic farming methods in general.

Organic farming is a method of farming that involves the use of ecologically friendly techniques to raise crops and animals. This farming method is viewed as an alternative to conventional agriculture, where a wide variety of means are utilized in farming. In organic farming, farmers avoid the use of synthetic chemicals for everything from soil management to pest control. Goods that are produced on an organic farm tend to be more expensive, since organic farming is more labor intensive and the farming implements are also more expensive.
